Current Political Issues in the Philippines

1. Noynoy & Shalani break-up rumor hounds cyberspace

Have they, or have they not broken up? Seems the truth is hard to find out at this point in time. The bachelor president has told the media that he wants the little that’s left of his privacy for himself. Break-up rumors have hounded the two since the start of P-noy’s presidency. Perhaps, it’s people putting two and two together: how can a very busy President have time for his girlfriend? Or blame it on some people who have agendas of their own. Some girls probably don’t want the country’s most eligible bachelor to end up with Shalani Take for example the Facebook account Love Destroyed. Looks like this account was set up for some purpose. It now links Councilor Shalani with her city Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian of Valenzuela City. It will be recalled that the good Mayor (also a bachelor) went out with actress Pauleen Luna. Previously, the anonymous account posted: “MADALAS MAKITA SI VALENZUELA COUNCILOR SHALANI SOLEDAD SA MALL NA NAMAMASYAL KASAMA ANG ISANG HALOS KAEDAD NIYANG LALAKING PULITIKO NA MAGKAHOLDINGS HANDS PA. ITO BA AY SENYALES NA TOTOO NGA NA SPLIT NA SILA NI PANGULONG PNOY?”The President, meanwhile, is being linked to TV5 reporter Patricia Ann ‘Trish’ Roque.Oops. This sounds like a round-robin already. would actually be worried about the effect the break-up will have on Shalani’s political stock. We all know that she shot to national prominence only because of Noynoy. But then again, why would she be worried? Sherwin is also as eligible and moneyed. Mayor nga lang.Nuff said.

comment:

I think media should not be part of it so that the relationship between P-NOY and Shalani will be in a private problem in their life. We must respect the president to solve and announce what will be their situation. And only the president can tell their decision to avoid wrong issues that can affect to the president. It is their personal life we must respect it.

2. Truth Commissions eyes 23 tentative cases

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Truth Commission (PTC) will look at a tentative list of 23 cases of graft and corruption. Carlos Medina, one of the 5 members of the commission said they have already come up with a tentative list of around 23 cases involving massive graft and corruption. However, Medina added that the commission is still at the stage of gathering the materials. For his part, PTC chairman former Chief Justice Hilario Davide Jr. said the commission will adopt a logical procedure in prioritizing cases. During the commission’s first press briefing on Friday, Medina also did not completely disclose how many cases involve former president and now Pampanga Congresswoman Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. He further explained that the list of around 23 cases is culled from various sources.

comment:

In this case the Philippine Truth Commission should do their responsible to have a result in this case, so that the tentative list will determine if the person listesd are involved in this case and they must investigate it in a right process.

3. Makati threatens to revoke West Tower License

MANILA, Philippines - The Makati City Engineer’s Office has ordered the management of the West Tower Condominium in Barangay Bangkal to siphon all traces of gasoline and flood water in its basement or risk the revocation of its license. The management was given until Thursday. The management, however, doubts they could do the job. Claret Valera, vice president for operations and business development, denied they had been inefficient in ensuring the safety of its residents. Unit owners have complained of toxic fumes emanating from the basement of the condominium. The leakage supposedly started more than 2 weeks ago. The local government has already ordered unit owners and residents leaving nearby to evacuate. It has yet to determine the source of the gas leak The First Philippine Industrial Corp. said indications already show that its pipeline near the condominium is not the culprit. Local government officials also have not seen any leaks there. The Bureau of Fire Protection suspects the gas leak may have come from a nearby lot, where an oil and bus station used to operate.

comment: The owner of this West Tower Condominium must solve this problem as soon as possible because it can affect the health of the people who are living near in the building. Like the water supply in the barangay their is possible that it will cause into contaminated water.

4. August 23, 2010 Manila Hostage Taking

The Manila hostage crisis occurred when a dismissed Philippine National Police officer took over a tour bus in Rizal Park, Manila, Philippines on August 23, 2010. Disgruntled former senior inspector Rolando Mendoza, from the Manila Police District (MPD) hijacked a tour bus carrying 25 people (20 tourists and also a tour guide, all from Hong Kong, and four Filipinos) in an attempt to get his job back.[3] He said that he was summarily dismissed without the opportunity to properly defend himself, and that all he wanted was a fair hearing.

After about ten hours into the siege, the Filipino bus driver was able to get out of the bus by falling through the driver's bus window and was shown on television saying "patay na lahat (everyone is dead)" before being whisked away by police. The ensuing rescue assault mounted by the MPD and resulting shoot-out was watched by millions on live television news and took around 90 minutes. At the end, eight of the hostages and Mendoza were dead and nine other people were injured. The Hong Kong Government soon after issued a top-level "black" travel alert for the Philippines. The assault on the tour bus to rescue the hostages was widely regarded by pundits at home and abroad as "bungled" and "incompetent"; the Philippine government also admitted that errors had been made and promised a thorough investigation, which they would report to the People's Republic of China and Hong Kong SAR governments.

comment:

All i can say that our government is not already ready in a hostage taking because our PNP are not trained well and lack of materials or gadget in time of the rescue. We know that our PNP has do their best to solve the problem. I think the reason that i can say that result comes into a "madugong pagtatapos" because our government is in a new generation that is why they have not given attention the crisis before the hostage taking result in killing the hostages by the hostage taker.

5. DepEd plans to add 2 years to basic education

The Department of Education will soon implement what it calls “an enhanced 12-year education program,” adding one year in elementary level and another year in the secondary level. In his first State of the Nation Address (SONA), President Benigno S. Aquino III said there is a need to increase the basic education cycle from ten years to 12 years. Education Secretary Bro. Armin Luisto said that the new program would roll out a simplified and a competency-driven curriculum that would produce professionally competent and skilled high school graduates. He said that “irrelevant subjects” would be taken out of the curriculum while new subjects would be incorporated to develop the technical and vocational skills of the students.

comment:

I'm not agree that the DepEd add 2 years to basic education because our country is facing into a crisis. If they add 2 years it is not favor to the poor people because they have not in a stable job that can finance to their children while studying. Can our government can finance it? In this time that we are facing crisis.
